How to Balance Montessori & Day Care (Kita)

Montessori materials for toddler fine motor development

If your child is attending daycare/Kita currently or in the near future, and you would like to balance a Montessori education with other child care, here are some options!

Montessori Classes

After-Kita Classes | Afternoon Montessori Toddler Classes are offered every Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday (15:00-17:00) for toddlers who attend a daycare in the mornings. Afternoon Montessori Baby Classes are held on Mondays and Fridays (14:00-15:30).

Coordinate with the day care | Many day cares are supportive and cooperative if you discuss with them that your child attends Montessori 1-2 mornings or afternoons per week.

Montessori-At-Home

You can also do Montessori at home to support your little one’s development in the most formative period of their lives. There are so many resources out there to support parents through setting up a Montessori home environment and presenting Montessori materials when your child is ready for the next level of challenge.

  1. Blogs
My favourite blogs for Montessori at home are Eltern Vom Mars (Austria), How We Montessori (UK), and The Montessori Notebook (NL)
  2. Books
A few good books to read when starting with Montessori-At-Home are
The Montessori Toddler by Simone Davies
The Secret of Childhood by Maria Montessori
Understanding the Human Being: The Importance of the First Three Years of Life by Dr. Silvana Montanaro
  3. MontiKids
MontiKids has a lot of really helpful, online resources and a practical, comprehensive blog, as well as beautiful Montessori materials, which are accompanied by how-to presentation videos.
